Renee’s Garden Chamomile

I usually have poor luck with chamomile, and this year I had to deal with drought after I sowed the seeds. But Renee’s Garden Bodegode chamomile (http://www.reneesgarden.com/seeds/packpg/herbs/chamomile-p.htm) germinated much better than I expected, especially under the conditions.

Full disclosure: I received the seeds free… I am a member of the Garden Writer’s Association, and sometimes I get freebies. But I still think they are better than any chamomile seeds I have purchased.

Morels

I didn’t find a single morel this year. Summer in March, cold and dry in April, and almost normal in May, but it was too late. A friend took me to some great sites with dead elms last week. Nothing. Maybe next year, unless people buy enough stuff from my site that I can afford a trip to Quebec.

Should I Keep the Site or Bail Out?

I haven’t updated this blog in a month or the website itself in several months. Going into the new year, I am reassessing what I’m doing with my life, and one of the things I am looking at is this website. I had hoped to make enough money with advertising and other ventures to at least cover costs, but that just isn’t happening. Are you hanging around with little to do in this holiday season, are you curious, or have you found this website to be useful, but have never purchased from my advertisers by clicking through my ad links, or contributed anything to this site? Then have a look at the entire website and email me suggestions and advice (eatmore@eatmoretoadstools.com), but not so much about how to increase traffic or to make it easier for people to navigate unless you can tell me how that might increase revenues. Sure, I could spend thousands of dollars and thousands of hours to provide free information, and make it easier for people to access. If someone can give me a grant for such endeavors, I will do so. But otherwise, anything I do needs to offer some possibility of generating enough revenue to cover expenses. What advice do you have as to how I can make the site pay for itself, and cover some of my other expenses?

Also, I have been informed that the workshop page does not contain enough information. Right now the only workshops I can possibly offer are at other insured venues. I can also do speaking engagements for your organization for expenses plus honorarium. No insurer I have found will cover my workshops, and there simply is not enough money involved for me to take the risk of an uncovered lawsuit. If you know of an event insurer that you know WILL cover me, that information would be useful, but suggestions about those that might are not fruitful. Believe me, I’ve asked people and insurers for years and have always come up empty-handed.
