This is perhaps not your average links page  Also, note that there are links throughout this site. I can't guar-rawn-tee these businesses cuz I don't run 'em myself.  But if they do you wrong let me know, and I'll get on their butts about it.

Books

Powell's

Powell's has been a favorite of mine ever since the pre-Internet days when I visited the shop in Portland, OR and discovered lots of old used academic books that I couldn't buy elsewhere. http://www.powells.com/partner/32215

Mushrooms

Amanitas

Eat more Amanitas... and die.  Actually, some species in this genus are edible, but you better know what you're doing.  Dr. Rod Tulloss has the best Amanita site on the web. It is primarily for serious mycologists (including serious "amateurs"). http://pluto.njcc.com/~ret/amanita/

Bill Russell's Wild, Wild Mushroom Site

Wild nekkid mushrooms everywhere and some are flashing their gills!  Bill has a field guide to Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic mushrooms in much greater detail than mine.  And it includes those pics of mushrooms gone wild. http://www.brmushrooms.com/.  Bill also holds court in a local coffeehouse in State College, PA for folks to bring in their mushrooms and have them identified.

Gary Lincoff

You’d think this guy would have his own website by now, but no.   The best I can do is a photo. http://nemf.org/files/lincoff/beginners/garylincoff.html

Merkles

If you don’t know what these are, I’m not telling.   Best site I know about for tracking spring finds.  http://morels.com /

MykoWeb

An old site out of Northern California.  I just discovered it and it looks good. Often those of us on the East Coast don't keep up with the Middle and Left Coasts as well as we should and we just plain ignore flyover country.  http://www.mykoweb.com/index.html

Tom Volk’s Fungi

This is where I go when I need a photo and brief description. Tom has the best mushroom photos I have seen on the Internet. http://tomvolkfungi.net/

Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club

Morel Madness, Mushroom Mania, need I say more?  http://www.wpamushroomclub.org/  I'm a card-carrying member.

Telluride Mushroom Festival

They're already planning for the 2010 festival. http://www.tellurideinstitute.org/page-62

 Botanica, Metaphysical, Medicinal and Such

Wise Weeds Botanicals

Cathy's weeds will make you wise.  Maybe not, but it would be wise to check out her site, especially the "money to burn."  http://www.wiseweeds.net/

The Cat's Eye

Cat will tell you things... and maybe what you need to hear instead of what you want to hear.  http://www.thecatseye.biz

Greyone
Greyone offers good products at reasonable prices. http://www.greyone.biz/index.html

Hardscrabble Enterprises

Paul Goland, a personal friend who won't do you wrong, scrapes by on selling mushroom books, spawn, shitatake logs and other mushroom related products, including medicinals.  I don't think they have the World Wide Web in the state of West, by Goddess, Virginia yet, but you can reach him at mailto:hardscrabble@mountain.net.

The Green Witch

For the Europeans who drop in or Americans who want to go Dutch. http://shop.thegreenwitch.nl/

Cordyceps Reishi Extract, LLC

I wasn't quite sure where to put this one.  Medicinal mushrooms and such from Paul Stamets' Fungi Perfecti at cheaper prices, sold by a little old lady in the hollow, who had to give up drag racing and moonshining.  Well, maybe not... I sorta make it up as I go.  I've heard complaints about the price of Stamets' products, but never about the quality. http://www.cordycepsreishiextracts.com/

 Food

Hondo Coffee

I have been begging Arondo Holmes to set up an affiliate program so I can post his banners and sell his coffee elsewhere on the site. But alas, Arondo is a busy man.  His hard work pays off in some great coffee though.  Visit his site, buy some beans and tell him I sent you.  http://www.hondocoffee.com/

 Chronos Coffee

Chronos Coffee is dedicated to shipping only the highest quality blends to you. http://www.chronoscoffee.com/

Music

Dead Men's Hollow

Bluegrass, gospel, tales of dysfunctional relationships and other good stuff from the mountains, coves and hollows of Washington, DC's Northern Virginia suburbs.  At least when they're not busy burning stuff and running the Gold Bar.  http://www.deadmenshollow.com/

Kenny Klein

Pagan bluegrass gospel and more from fiddlin' Kenny Klein.  http://www.kennyklein.net/music.htm

 Off the Beaten Path

Motivational Speech

Acres of Diamonds by Russell H. Conwell, who was later the founder and first president of Temple University, may have been the first memorable “motivational” speech given before mass audiences in the US .  He gave the speech 6000 times.    Beats the drivel that passes for motivational speeches and books these days. http://www.temple.edu/tempress/titles/conwell_reg.html

Campground

Abrams Creek Campground, well situated near the Canaan Valley of WV, is always hopping with activities. Yours truly identified some of the rich variety of fungi that grow there. http://www.abramscreek.com/ .  Vince is also running Buffalo Gap Camp these days.http://www.buffalogapcamp.com/

Seed , Herb and Plant Companies

Hardings Ginseng Farm

Ginseng,  goldenseal and you can even order ginseng wine from his site.  Larry Harding is very generous with his time in showing and explaining his operation to ginseng farmer wannabes.  http://www.hardingsginsengfarm.com/

Mountain Rose Herbs

If  I can't grow it or find it, I get it from Mountain Rose.  High quality, reasonable prices, and they have bulk discounts.

Mountain Rose Herbs. A Herbs, Health and Harmony C

 Richters

OK, they’re Canuckistanians, but they still have interesting stuff, constantly add to their stock, and are experts in herbal medicine. See the plants pages for a link.

Redwood City Seed Company

Damned hippies!   I’ve been buying seeds from them for decades.   They aren’t much for technology, unless you count the hot pepper department where new varieties are developed the old-fashioned way, and Craig never did write the book he promised, but the check in the mail or phone call gets you some great seeds. http://www.ecoseeds.com/

MPP

There is one medicinal plant I dare not cultivate and do not even discuss on this site.  Even if it were legal, I would probably not cultivate or discuss it because my economist instincts (yes, I'm one of those in my alternative life) tell me others have a comparative advantage in this area.  But in order for those with the comparative advantage to proceed, change must occur. There is a good non-profit organization working to bring some common sense to the laws surrounding this plant.  You may wish to help them:
